Keith Melton achieved both a first degree and a PhD from Cambridge University
before embarking on a 30 year career in research and development which included several
years in California where he also worked with venture capital companies to evaluate
product opportunities. He has some 77 published papers to his name and has registered
25 patents.
Immediately prior to joining New and Renewable
Energy Centre Ltd (NaREC), Keith was the Development Director, Renewable Energy for
Corus where he led a team designing a 3MW direct drive generator wind turbine, and
evaluated many wave and tidal devices to identify candidates for collaborative
development.
This reflected his particular interest in new and renewable energy building on previous
experience as a Director R&D Product Applications responsible for developing new
products and applications, with approximately 250 staff. Projects included new coatings
for separator plates for fuel cells and developing a building integrated photovoltaic
roofing product. He became actively involved in the regional agenda with roles such as
a Trustee Open Industry / Industrial Trust and membership of Boards set up under
Objective One.
